Caller ID Module

Introduced into IPS 5.5 Build 28, there is an optional Caller ID Module for detecting incoming calls and linking them to Customers. This feature requires Caller ID enabled on your telephone line and a compatible Caller ID modem. The Caller ID Module supports a single telephone line per POS Terminal.

User Registration Option

Enter the letters CID in the Options field to enable the Caller ID Feature.

When you enter CID into a Demonstration Registration, a message box will appear to ask if you would like to create a Demo Button for Caller ID.

Modem Settings

Once you have connected your modem to a phone line and the Computer’s Serial Port, you will need to select the Device in Ideal POS System.

Go to Setup > POS Terminals > Other Peripherals. Set the Modem Type and Com Port. Currently the NetComm Roadster AM5698 is the only modem tested and listed in the Modem Types. You can however change the Modem Type to Custom, and set your own Initialization String and COM Port Settings.

Demonstrating the Caller ID Feature

If you selected yes to create a Demo Button for Caller ID, a new button will be created at the bottom left hand corner of the POS Screen.

Alternatively, you can create your own Caller ID Demo button by going into POS Screen Buttons and creating a new button type called Caller ID Demo. Enter the Phone Number in the Automatic Text Field.

When you press this button, the following Alert Box will appear at the bottom right hand corner of the POS Screen.

If the Customer does not exist, the message box will display ‘Unknown Caller’. You can press Search or Dismiss.

The Customer Search screen will appear in which you can press New Customer to add the Customer to the POS Database. Alternatively you can enter the Name of the Customer to see if the Customer already exists in the database under a different name.

Press New Customer to Enter the Customer Details and then press OK.

Once the Customer has been added to the POS Database, the next time they call, you will see their Name and Phone Number appear.

When you Press Accept, the Customer will be automatically logged onto the sale.
